(video clip, only some will understand completely - you can skip, if you don't know me very well or don't like sci-fi)
So I've been meaning to post this for a few days now, and finally made myself sit down to do it. It's definitely been a week or two of stuff, and so I can't remember exactly what was going on and when, but I can certainly sum it up. I had been trying to learn how to "run properly," and in doing so managed to bang up my knees pretty bad; I had to get some compression knee braces to help out , and had to lay off the jogging / running. Eventually they started getting decent, and I hit the trail with the braces. Eventually I figured out what I was doing wrong, well, I hypothesized what I was doing wrong, and my guess seems to be pretty accurate (from what I've noticed). I was trying to use a running stance / method, while trying to jog. Now, I honestly don't know if that will make sense to anyone, but it makes perfect sense to me. Hit up YouTube, and search for "how to run properly" - you'll see stuff about stepping on the front half of your foot and not your heel (makes sense), and leaning forward at the waist for momentum (makes sense), and flinging your feet up to kick your own butt as your going (again, makes sense). However, doing all of this , it wrecked my legs. I don't think I had felt this bad ever. So, once my knees were doing better I went back out. This time I went with what my legs felt was comfortable - the jogging method that I just naturally do (and it's nothing to write home about, and looks pretty lazy in my opinion - but it does incorporate a few things I learned from the YouTube videos - mostly I just listened to my body), but it gets the job done and I have minimal leg pain. Coincidence? Happenstance? Maybe...
A few days after figuring out the running situation, I decided to change up my jogging routine a bit. On the trail that I jog on there are various benches / picnic tables. I had gotten in the habit of doing leaning push ups on 4 specific ones along the way - typically 8 to 10 depending on how I was feeling. Well, last Tuesday or Wednesday, I decided I needed to up the ante a bit: 12 leaning push ups on each. Period. No cuts. It was either later that day, or the next day, I was having a pain in my left pectoral area. I couldn't tell if it was muscle or heart related, and it kind of spooked me. One way or the other, I opted to just rest my body. I mean, when I ran up the stairs, or walked fast down the hall, it started hurting a bit. Do ya blame me for being spooked? Add in that Tuesday afternoon(?) I ended up getting really flushed and kind of light headed - sort of like how I felt when I was over working myself at the gym a little over 2 months ago. So, yea.... But, the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking it was muscle (lets be honest, I'm trying to be positive about it - but seriously, signs do point to muscle related).
Mix all of this in with the fact that I've gotten very lax on my eating habits at home. Now, what I'm eating isn't something considered to be all that "un-healthy" , just not ideal for my for my goals. Gluten / dairy free tacos (chicken, diced bell peppers, pineapple teriyaki sauce, frank's redhot, goat cheese, and shredded romaine). Gluten / dairy free pizza (either pizza sauce or a BBQ sauce mixed with frank's redhot, and bell peppers and goat cheese - and possibly chicken). I've also done chicken soup (broth , diced chicken, and diced celery), often throwing in an English muffin with peanut-butter and honey. Bottom line, I need to get my dinners under control - that's something I struggling with, and I think it's just the motivational side of things that I'm really struggling with and projecting it on to my meals (ha, does that make sense?)....see the next post - it's a bit of an update to all this..
Tomorrow, the day after Memorial Day, I'm going to start back up on things. Going to jog the trail, and hit my 12 leaning push ups. I may take my time with the jogging a bit more than I had last week (I actually made really good time when I did the 12 leaning push ups last time - so I may have pushed myself a bit too much). Either way, I have to get back up on that horse, and ride that pony to the finish line. Oh yea! 2 weeks out from Goal-Weight #2 - and I'm about 7 lbs out. Yea, going to be tight. But read the stuff up above.... I got this.
Until next time, keep on grindin' and keep on pushin' yourself to your fullest potential! But don't break your body in the process....that doesn't do anybody any good, and just becomes a headache.
